When you have a new baby, you go round and round trying to figure out who he looks like. “He has your eyes.” “He has my smile.” “I think that’s grandma’s nose.” Etc. It’s a fun game and it evolves as the baby grows. Each new feature that comes into focus leads to another round of guessing games. I have photo collaged many of my and my husbands baby pictures with photos of our son to show the resemblance. Each of you secretly pleased when the tally mark lands in your column. Proud to see that some part of you has been passed down, will live on.
Today I was struck by a Bible verse in my morning study time.
“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
-1 Corinthians 3:7
This verse is not about babies. But, I guess with my current lens fixed tightly on Motherhood, I read it in a new way. God may have used us to plant and water, but He did the growing of our child. And my new prayer is that our son looks the most like Him.
